Question
How do robust perception, memory, and action emerge from dynamic neural circuits as animals engage with a constantly changing world?
Approach
Closed-loop behavioral and sensory control, longitudinal optophysiology, and computational modeling across synapses, cells, and circuits.
Scope
Mouse visual system, dorsal cortex, thalamus, and hippocampal formation, spanning milliseconds to months.
Current Work
We focus on two main questions:
- Long-term stabilization and drift: how circuit computations change or stay reliable across days to months, during both passive sensation and goal-directed perceptual decisions.
- Closed-loop sensing and action: how sensory sampling through movement shapes neural activity, and how that activity guides immediate choices during orienting and navigation under ethologically relevant task demands.
